Causes Of Weight Gain In North Portland

Weight Loss Portland OR

Body weight. The amount of mass in a human body. For some it’s less, for some it is more and there’s demerits to both.

It is not easy to maintain a healthy weight.

Our weight builds up over years, gradually, and is why it seems easier to gain. But it is quite easy to lose weight.

There are many different ways to lose weight. All of the sustainable ones have this one thing in common. Eating healthy.

Your nutrition contributes to 80% of your weight loss journey and exercise, the remaining 20%. Why is this?

To understand that, let’s first look at the causes of weight gain in North Portland.

Causes of weight gain in North Portland OR:

  1. Genetics: the metabolism level of parents affects the metabolism levels of the children.
  2. Processed foods: The additives and chemicals in food ensure that the food is cheap (availability), unhealthy (harming your body) and addictive (making you WANT to eat them).
  3. Food addiction: The sugars and fat content in junk or unhealthy food makes you associate food with rewards making you get addicted.
  4. The constant marketing: With food becoming a commercial product, junk food gets marketed a lot, making you subconsciously want to buy and eat it, even if you won’t have if it wasn’t marketed as often. This is why there’s a constant increase in obesity among young children as they get influenced by ads.
  5. Leptin and insulin resistance: For a healthy body, your insulin level and leptin resistance needs to be less to burn fat properly.

Now as we can see, most of the weight gain is by factors inside of our body and the food we eat is what is causing most issues, not our activities.

So how do we overcome these factors and lose weight?

Eat healthy. How?

Like this:

  • Start slow. Don’t buy the whole green section of the grocery store for this. While some of us are birds who need to jump off a tree to fly, others are ducks, we need to start slow or we’ll drown.
  • Eat in moderation. Cut down portion sizes and have a balanced diet.
  • If you exercise a lot and still feel hungry, have 4-5 small meals instead of rare bulky ones daily.
  • Eat food high in fiber and include more fruits and vegetables to your food.
  • Drink enough water for your body (use a water calculator) and flush out the toxins.
  • Eat meals at a regular time. Offtime eating only causes binge eating.
  • Use weight loss hacks like using a smaller plate, eating in a blue room, etc. They do work, but not enough to work on their own.
  • Eat home cooked meals as you can control what it is you are eating and you can alter the ingredients to your liking.
  • Most importantly, don’t forbid yourself. If you want to have a cake, have it. But have a small slice. Want that pizza? Sure! But buy a small instead of medium.

Overtime, your body will get over the cycle junk food has you in until you don’t even want junk food.

Don’t blame yourself, feel guilty or go back to square one if you do give into your cravings, we are human and we may fail. But that doesn’t make us a failure. Get back up and start where you left off.

If it gets too hard, contact a dietician and build up a plan and stick to it. It’s a journey, so remember that and start walking.

Happy journeying!
